Red Ribbon week is coming to campus on November 14-18. Celebrated nationwide, it is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country.
The school district has supported Red Ribbon Week for several years. Each year, elementary students write signed commitments to live drug free lives and place them in red balloons, which are sent into the air and often found later across the nation. Now, the high school encourages students to keep those commitments trough their various activities and spirit days.
This year, the spirit days include “Save the world from drugs” (super hero day) on Monday, “Buddy up against drugs” (twin day) on Tuesday, “Combat day” (camo day) on Wednesday, “Put a spell on drugs” (Harry Potter day) on Thursday, and “Team up against drugs” (Jersey Day) on Friday.
This year’s annual black light pep rally will take place during Red Ribbon week. Due to state cross country, football playoffs, and volleyball playoffs, the pep rally will be on Thursday.
The activities serve as a vehicle for communities and individuals to take a stand through personal commitment to live drug-free lives. The ultimate goal of the organization is the creation of a drug-free America. The week also serves to commemorate the heroes who have died fighting against illegal drug trafficking throughout the years.
