From Michael Jackson to Usher, the style of singing has shifted over the course of the years as well as the style of dancing. In February of 1984 a musical came out that would be such a big hit that 27 years later producers would make it once again with few adjustments. This musical is Footloose.
The original Footloose movie, from 1984, stars Kevin Bacon (Ren McCormack), Lori Singer (Ariel Moore), and John Lithgow (Reverend Shaw Moore). The story starts off with Ren McCormack moving into a town with a strict law against dancing. Throughout the whole musical Ren and his new friends, such as Ariel Moore, work on abolishing the law and going back to dancing freely; a classic movie of teen rebellion. In the opening weekend of the 1984 musical, it is recorded to have made 8,556,935 dollars in the United States alone.
The 1984 classic became well known since the day it came out and so well known, almost 30 years later, that producers are now making a renewed one. The 2011 version of Footloose hits the theatres on October 14, 2011. Taking on the well known roles are Kenny Wormald (Ren McCormack), Julianne Hough (Ariel Moore), and Dennis Quaid (Reverend Shaw Moore). Producers are keeping the same storyline and some of the same famous songs and dancing scenes, but adding a few tweaks here and there.
In the time when the first movie was released, the dancing style was quite different than it is now, 27 years later. So for the people that have seen the first movie, there will be remarkable differences in the style of dance from the original to the upcoming movie.
Go check out the renewed version of Footloose in theaters October 14, 2011 and get to compare the differences of how music and dancing styles have changed within 27 years.
