After months of waiting, Taylor Swift has dropped her new album: The Life of a Showgirl. Social media platforms are booming with opinions on the new songs and debates are forming on the public’s favorite and least favorite songs.
This album has a mix of slow and upbeat songs ranging from creative to basic beats. My personal favorite is ¨Fate of Ophelia¨. This song is catchy and has become one of the most liked in the album. The song starts off with a slow but unique beat and transforms into a dynamic chorus.
However, many songs in the album have been compared to other artist’s work. The song “Life of a Showgirl” is compared to “Cool” by the Jonas Brothers. “Cancelled!” is compared to “Therefore I Am” by Billie Eilish, and “Yellow Flicker Beat” by Lorde. These songs, among others, represent the repetitive and monotone sound of the album.
The list below shows my personal top two and bottom two songs from the album.
Top 2:
- Fate of Ophelia: This song has gone viral on social media as a staple song. This song is frequently used as a sound for videos on varying social media platforms. It has a very unique beat and the bridge is catchy and memorable.
- Elizabeth Taylor: Elizabeth Taylor has a very catchy intro that immediately hooks listeners with its instrumental background. As the song continues into the chorus, it quickly escalates and becomes very dramatic and intense. The song is understandably popular due to its striking sound compared to the upbeat nature of the rest of the album.
Bottom 2:
- Wood: Wood starts off as decent and has a nice sound, but as you listen to the words the song loses its appeal. The strange lyrics of the song have led to many different theories about what the song is actually about.
- Wi$h Li$t: This song starts off with a high pitched, robotic like sound that is somewhat catchy at first but quickly gets tiring. The lyrics are very blunt and repetitive which makes it a song that can get irritating very fast.
