Senior Major Smith is a Right Guard on varsity football. He is a returning starter on Lovejoy relying on his process in coaching his younger teammates.

The Red Ledger: When did you start playing football and when did you realise it was the sport you wanted to focus on?
MS: I started playing in 2nd grade. I realized it was for me during my first game because it was so much different from other sports. I felt like I finally found a sport I could be really good at.
TRL: Do you have any other hobbies you do in your free time?
MS: I like to play basketball with my friends. We have an ASA team called the Flintropics.
TRL: What is your favorite part of playing football?
MS: Being part of a team that is dedicated, and being around a bunch of guys who are working hard towards a common goal.
TRL: What have you accomplished throughout your football career so far?
MS: I was 1st Team All District last year.
TRL: Who is your biggest role model and why?
MS: My Dad because he taught me to be a better person, and always strive for my goals. I am grateful for him everyday.
TRL: What is your favorite memory as a Lovejoy athlete so far?
MS: Beating Anna in the 3rd round of the playoffs last year. No feeling could compare. We had been working so hard and to beat them for the second time that season was really exciting.
TRL: What are your future goals, football or otherwise?
MS: I want to win the state championship my final year as a senior. I know it might be a stretch, but I believe if we all buckle down it can happen.
TRL: What do you think of when you play football and why?
MS: I try to think of calming things when I play. The best way to play is relaxed and steady. A huge part of a team sport is trusting the guys around you. I try to keep my full faith in the boys by my side.
