The Game: A disappointment
Super Bowl 59 did not go how I hoped. The Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22, with the game feeling out of reach from the beginning. As a lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fan, born and raised thanks to my mom being from Kansas City, watching them struggle against the Philadelphia Eagles was pretty frustrating, to say the least. The Chiefs’ offense just never got going. They didn’t even make it past midfield until the last two minutes of the third quarter, which pretty much tells you everything you need to know. Patrick Mahomes was struggling and the Eagles’ defense was relentless, sacking him six times, the most he has ever taken in a single game as an NFL quarterback. Meanwhile, Jalen Hurts and the Eagles completely dominated, putting up 40 points and making it look easy. It was a tough loss, and definitely not the ending I wanted for this season.
The Commercials: A little bit of everything
Super Bowl commercials are always a mix of funny, weird, and emotional, and this year was no different. Some of them had me laughing, especially the ones with celebrities doing crazy things. Others went for nostalgia, bringing back old characters and references, which is always fun to see. And of course, there were the sentimental ones, the kind that try to make you cry in the middle of a football game. Overall, there was a good mix, although I was disappointed over the game and none really stuck with me, there were definitely some standouts that people will be talking about for a while.
The Halftime Show: Entertaining, but also a roast
The halftime show was actually really good. It had great production, strong vocals, and a lot of energy, which is exactly what you want from a Super Bowl performance, but what made it even more interesting was the underlying theme. There were definitely moments that felt like subtle shade at Drake. Whether it was intentional or not, people online were quick to pick up on it, and it added an extra layer of entertainment to the whole thing. Regardless of the drama, the performance itself was solid and kept the crowd engaged.
As much as I hated watching the Chiefs lose, the Super Bowl itself was still a big event with plenty of entertainment. The game wasn’t what I wanted, but the commercials and halftime show at least gave people something to enjoy. Hopefully, next year, Kansas City can bounce back and take home another ring, because this one hurt.
