On The Spot: Senior expectations
Mathias Alling, Section Editor
During senior year, students face a variety of expectations and set goals regarding subjects from prom to varsity sports. Over the past two academic years, schools limited activities because of COVID-19; however, with events and activities opening up, seniors share what they hope to accomplish during the year.
Senior Austin Blair
“I want to try and get my GPA up because of college scholarships and have a great wrestling season. If I do that, I can possibly get a wrestling scholarship on top of academic scholarships. Then, I can hopefully go to a college with some criminal justice or firefighting studies.”
Senior Tatum Chester
“[My goals are] to stay motivated because it's hard to get off track. It's my last year to get all my college stuff done and out of the way, so I don't have to stress about it later, while balancing my school, sport and academic life.”
Senior Megan Diercks
“I want to raise my GPA, and to raise my GPA, I have to stay ahead in all my classes and not get behind from volleyball or anything like that. I’m looking forward to our volleyball season, and prom will probably be fun since we didn’t get to go last year.”
Senior Sydney Thompson
“I think it’s going to be a really fun year. I think our senior class is really spirited, so I think we’ll have a really spirited and peppy senior year overall. [My goals are] to get good grades and to have a lot of fun since it's the last year of high school. I want to do everything I can and be really connected with everyone.”
Senior Aidan Meek
“[I want to] have a good time with all of my friends and just spend time with all the people that I care about this last year before I go off for a long time and maybe never see them again. One thing I’ve looked back on is how fun high school actually was and how I’ve actually really enjoyed it.”
Senior Trent Rucker
“For the football team, we want to go, make it and win State this year. We want to have another undefeated season. For baseball, we want to go and win State also. We had a solid year last year going to round four. This year if I wrestle, I want to go and make it to State also. I have big goals this year for sports, but academically, I want to keep my GPA above a 3.8 and get into a good college.”...
Senior Emma Bittlestone
“Expectations I have for senior year are to graduate and hopefully move up in class rank so that I have a better chance to get into college. I play softball, so one of our big goals is to be state champs because we were one game away last year, so we’re hoping this year we can make it to the State Championships.”
Senior Tyler Smith
“[One of my expectations is to] stay on top of myself and make sure I don’t lay off certain things. [One of my goals is to] try not to sway away from my fitness goals and to try not to be distracted and to stay focused.”
