Golf finishes season play

The golf team officially finished their season after senior Jay Pabin and junior Mason McClure competed in the state tournament. Seven people finished with first team all-district honors, and two finished with second team all-district honors.

“I can’t wait to see what the Leopards got ahead of them,” Pabin said. “Good players are coming in quickly, and we should be very competitive here soon.

After qualifying for the state tournament during the regional meet by shooting two over par 146, Pabin and McClure fell short of the top three places.

“I didn’t do amazing at state due to a very poor first day performance but had a solid second day to finish the tournament,” McClure said. “I know that I could have finished much better but the entire experience was beyond my expectations. I felt excited to be playing at state and proud to be a part of it. I felt nervous but was mostly excited for the opportunity to play against the best of the best.”

The state tournament was held in Georgetown and took place on May 17 and 18. Pabin and McClure shot 147 and 154 respectively.

“Obviously, my stretch goal was to win state, but I knew I had to play great golf to do that,” Pabin said. “And I was just grateful to be there and finish the year right. During the tournament, I felt really focused on what I was doing and just very grateful during the last few holes of my high school golf career.”

After he graduates, Pabin will continue to golf at Colorado State University.

“Going forward, I’d like to just make sure I’m fully prepared going in and am able to compete to my full potential all the time,” Pabin said.

The girls team finished their season after placing fourth in the regional tournament. They won a total of nine tournaments as a team during this year.

“At the regional tournament, I could’ve done better for sure,” sophomore Mia Roepsch said. “We had a lot of practice around that time that was missed. I feel like I wasn’t really prepared as well as I should’ve been. Next year, I think if we all practice a lot we should be fine.”
