On The Spot: New structure of Friday Night Lights
Layla Healey, Staff Writer
As football season kicks off, students are going back to spending their Friday nights at football stadiums. This year, the student section at games looks different with COVID-19 precautions put in place. A few seniors share their opinions on their last year of high school football games looking different this year.
Senior Law Legg
“It is obviously a little disappointing because we have to separate a little more, but I feel like we are making the best out of the situation. I would much rather have this student section, than no student section at all.”
Senior Delaney Walker
“Honestly it really sucks, not gonna lie. It’s hard to have school spirit when we’re all a row apart from each other and only get 10 kids per row. It feels like we’re only cheering with our 10 people, and not with our whole student section. Also, the location of the section is not really in the best spot. The old location allowed us to be separate from the parents and adults, so that we could be...
Senior Jeremy Van Riper
“I feel like it’s not as fun as it usually is. Not as many people are going to the games. The section itself is small and the energy isn’t there.”
Senior Peter Godipelly
“I guess since the student section is on the far right instead of its usual section, but once the game starts, it feels just like normal football season.”
Senior Sam Clay
“It kinda sucks. It’s hard to get the crowd as hype being a Dirty Drumline member because of where we are positioned. I’m glad we have a season. It just stinks that this is what we have to do for it.”
Senior Jerusha Pitan
“Well, I think that it is good that they can separate us and keep us socially distanced, but I honestly don’t like the fact that we can’t be in our senior section or the student section that I’ve been going to for almost six years. They’re just doing what they can to make sure that we can still have our games and still be safe.”
Senior Ashlyn White
“It sucks because it’s our senior year, and seeing the student sections from the year before and how fun they were, only makes it worse. We were all looking forward to being loud and being close together up against the fence. It’s just really unfortunate that this is what we have to do now.”
Senior Katie Welch
“This year I am glad to be attending the games in general because I know for a long time I was expecting to not be able to attend the football games. I am sad as a senior I cannot stand at the front row cheering for the football team, but I am glad that we can just be there in general.”
