Renewed Solutions to host community recycling event at school
May 15, 2019
Recycling company Renewed Solutions will be hosting a community shred and recycle event this Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the front parking lot of the high school. The event was organized by administrative assistant Lynda Fleming after Renewed Solutions proposed the community event.
The event was originally scheduled to be held on May 11, but was postponed due to weather.
“Personally, I am a huge recycler,” Fleming said. “We need to protect our resources by finding ways to reuse them and minimize the amount of refuse that we add to the landfills.”
Renewed Solutions will be on site to remove any e-waste needing to be recycled, however, appliances, hazardous materials, and scrap materials will not be accepted. They will also be offering secure onsite shredding services for any paper documents, books, newspapers, and magazines. Volunteers working at the event can assist with getting items and boxes out of cars if need be.
“I wanted to work at the recycling event because I think it is important to help the environment whenever possible,” sophomore Taryn Sutherlin said. “I saw the opportunity arise and I thought it was the perfect way to contribute. Events like these are important for the community because it brings us together for an important cause and can help the community bond as a whole.”
Not only does the event allow community members to clear out any excess documents they don’t need, but it is also a fundraising opportunity for the school. The shredding donation per box of paper documents is $5.00, and $20.00 for every car of e-waste. Bulk recycling needs will have additional charges.
The district is currently contracted with Renewed Solutions for all shredding services. The district has done electronics recycling events in the past, and so the administration agreed to partner with them for recycling as well.
