Junior Samir Mehta, Vice President
The Red Ledger: Why did you choose to run for an officer position?
Samir Mehta: Being a part of such a large organization, I really wanted to seperate myself from the crowd. Obviously NHS is a great thing, and the work that they do is great so I just wanted to be a leader in that.
TRL: What specific goals do you have for the future of NHS? What can be improved?
SM: A lot of people are concerned about the repetition that goes on in our meetings. They complain that we are going over the same things in our meeting, so I think next year what we could do is if we added newer things and added something new to each meeting, maybe have more events to get the community more involved.
TRL: What sets you apart from other candidates?
SM: I think that having had my experience this past year as historian, I’ve really gotten to see what is like behind the scenes of NHS with Mrs. Dodson, Mrs.Vaughn and all of my fellow officers. I’ve been able to see all of the work and the planning that goes into it. Now, I feel like I’m ready to take on greater responsibilities than what I’ve had this past year.
TRL: What makes you a qualified leader?
SM: I think that I work well with others and my fellow officers, I also do a great job collaborating and coming up with ideas, that kind of thing, I think I have time management skills that others don’t have because I have a very busy schedule, and I’ve learned how to make everything that I do.
TRL: What would be the first thing you would change about NHS if you were elected?
SM: There are some issues with the bylaws, for example, there was some complaining earlier this year like babysitting and community service, lawn mowing didn’t count as hours, and I think those things should count as community service.
TRL: Why is NHS and what it stands for important to you?
SM: NHS is important to me because I recognize the value of service and it’s such a great thing to do especially when you are young, there is so much work that can be done and being in such a large organization we can make a big impact.
