Cross Country Fall Festival cancelled due to rain

Varisty boys complete their drills before racing.

The cross country team’s first home meet, the Lovejoy Fall Festival scheduled for this weekend, has been cancelled due to rain. The meet will not be rescheduled.

Because of the cancellation, the team will have a revenue loss due to all of the food, shirts, and supplies they ordered.

“We will definitely lose some money this year for the program because we have already purchased awards and custom race bibs,” head coach Logan Kelly said. “Most of the awards we can reuse for next year’s meet, and we have worked with all the vendors as best we can to not lose too much money this year.”

This also takes away from the Leopards opportunity to race at Myers Park, where the district meet will take place this season.

“The season has been going well, just about everyone has been training strong,” junior Will Muirhead said. “This weekend would have showed how hard we have been working the past four months.”

Even though their meet was cancelled, both boys and girls teams have the option of going up to Fayetteville, Arkansas and running in the Chile Pepper festival there. This gives the team the opportunity to still stay active.

“The Chile Pepper is a big race in Fayetteville, and they have college races and open races for anyone,” senior Collin Jones said. “I’m expecting it to be very muddy from all the rain they have been getting, but that will just make things more fun.”
