The theatre department is keeping the tradition of providing a summer camp for incoming 4th-7th graders, taking place July 9-13.

The camp is managed by music director Anne Tracy and acting director Jessica Brester, who also manages the high schooler volunteers.

“It’s a great way to promote our theatre,” Bryce Fuller, junior said. “As well as show them how hardworking we are and let them get used to out space and our rehearsal process.”

The theatre department is also beginning a technical theatre camp this year. The students will be allowed to grow their painting and costuming abilities.

“All kids will be in the rehearsal process,” Brewster said. “The kids will be learning choreography, and music and learning about characterization, and the technical kids will be preparing other aspects of the show.”

This year the group is performing “The Jungle Book JR,” one of four plays they cycle through the years.

“We do ‘Jungle Book’ because it appeals to both boys and girls,” Brewster said. “It’s a really fun show that the kids really enjoy because it’s one of the Disney shows.”

The high school volunteers apply to join the crew of counselors and technicians.

“I enjoy it because we get to mentor them when they’re practicing for their parts,“ junior Marcie Sawyers said. “We get to help the students with their audition process. Then, once they get their parts, we help them learn the music and help them really refine their acting skills for each character. Even for the students who have roles in the ensemble, we make sure that each of them are active in the show. We really just want them to love it as much as we do.“
