The art program will debut its first student-curated show tonight with the Lovejoy Visual Arts Spotlight Exhibition in the high school gallery from 6 to 8 p.m. and will be on display until March 6. The exhibition will display over 40 pieces, including 10 sculpture pieces.

“This is the first time we have done a highlight show,” art teacher Amanda Beller said. “There was a group of six senior studio kids who scored the work, then the students’ work that was selected got an invitation email. It is truly a juried show as opposed to teachers picking the most successful pieces.”

Students in any art class were allowed to submit three artworks to the student jury for selection in the art show.

“Each person was allowed to submit pieces, but we selected only one from each person, so roughly 40 people,” senior AP art student Tad Greenwald said.

Over 170 pieces were submitted to the student jury and narrowed down to the 40 that will be displayed in the art gallery.

“This show is not really focused around a theme but it is the first show that we’ve kind of curated and juried in each piece,” Greenwald said.
