After working for three months on production, the theatre program is performing the Sound of Music Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Jan. 18-20. The shows will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium, and tickets can be purchased online or at the door at $12 for students, seniors, and staff and $16 for adults.

This will be the second production of the musical in the school’s history, the first being in 2009.

It was only our third show to ever do at Lovejoy High School, and our program was still in its beginning stages,” theatre director Jessica Brewster said. “We have grown exponentially as a theatre and choir program, and our performers have, as well.”

Led by seniors Hannah Hansen and Jack Supan playing Maria and Captain von Trapp, respectively, the musical is based on The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, which details the family’s experiences leading up to their escape from Nazi-controlled Austria during World-War II.

“We hope Lovejoy students will come out to see this beautiful, classic story, told by an extremely gifted group of performers and technicians,” Brewster said. “We invite all Lovejoy students to support their peers and the arts at Lovejoy High School.”
