The District 10-5A UIL academic spring meet will be held at the school on April 1 and April 2.

The overall district champion is determined by factoring in all events and One Act Play. The UIL academic team hopes to win their fourth district championship in a row. The school will host the other seven schools in the district. So far this year the Speech and Debate team has hosted two other tournaments. The team hosted a TFA tournament on Sept. 19 and a NSDA tournament Jan. 7 through Jan. 9.

There are sixteen academic events that will begin on Friday and continue into Saturday. The six speech and debate events will begin on Saturday.

“We are excited to host his year’s UIL Speech and Debate and Academic tournament,” Speech and Debate coach Tami Parker said. “This will be our third time to host it in the time that I’ve been here at the school. This year Mr. Taylor is taking care of the academic side and I’m taking care of the speech and debate side. We’ve worked all year so that our school would be ready to be a good host to our district.”

Seniors Jolen Martinez, Austin Tedman, and Stu Mair along with junior Noah Corbitt advanced in current events to the UIL state competition last year.

“It was really exciting to advance,” Mair said. “We had been preparing all year and it was really cool to see that pay off in advancing to regionals. I was glad that the current events team was with me in advancing to regionals and on to state.”
