The wrestling teams will be facing off against Lancaster High School and McKinney High School on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m., at McKinney High.

We have two district duals this week, against Lancaster and McKinney that we need to be ready for,” head wrestling coach Mike Eaton said. “Our district tournament is only a couple of weeks away, so we want to be improving and peaking at that time. I know our men and women will be ready.”

Last week, the boys wrestling team placed fifth in the state dual championship with a 3-2 record, finishing the day off with a win against Bryan High School, the host school. After losing the first match of the day 39-34 against Chisholm Trail High, the Leopards redeemed themselves with a 57-18 win against Georgetown.

With it being the first time the team had gone to the state dual championship, placing fifth was unexpected. Eaton called it “a great accomplishment.”

Our team actually had a chance to win our first dual, which was against the team that eventually placed third,” Eaton said. “Our men wrestled well.”

With one match left to go against Bryan High, the pressure was put on senior Tom Elvin. Tied up at 34 after a pin by sophomore Bumper Pool, Elvin finished the job and cleaned up Bryan HS with a pin that gave the Leopards a win of 40-34.
