After practicing for weeks and preparing for the game against Lake Dallas who defeated the Leopards’ week two opponent Frisco Wakeland, the varsity football team (1-1) is hoping to bounce back with a road victory on Friday at at 7:30 p.m.

Last Thursday, the Leopards ran out of time in an attempted comeback against Wakeland. Lovejoy started to inch up on Wakeland during the second half, but came up short 45-33.

Lake Dallas defeated Frisco Wakeland on their opener game 41-14, but Wakeland didn’t have either of their running backs to help in the game. Lake Dallas is (1-1) due to a loss last week against Frisco Centennial, 30-19. Key players on Lake Dallas offense are quarterback Spencer Frederickson, who threw for 188 yards against Centennial. Flex player Keegan Brewer, who lead the rushing attack with 59 yards and was the top receiver with 56 yards, is also on the watch list.

“[The players] will touch the ball as much as they can,” head coach Ryan Cox said. “They are both very good and we will have to play good to stop them.”

The Leopards gave up a whopping 364 yards on the ground game last Thursday, with 310 of them from Wakeland running back Jay Orji. For another week, the Leopards need to somehow shut down the rushing game.

“[We practiced] fitting our gaps better and tackling better,” Cox said. “We spent a lot of time on getting better at those two fundamentals.”

Senior wide receiver Aaron Fuller scored three out of the five touchdowns against Wakeland. Senior Alek Milewski scored his first season touchdown with two catches for 21 yards. The Leopards ended up with 289 receiving yards between Aaron Fuller and Nick Parker.
