Bringing the school year to an end, AP Art students are having their annual AP Studio Art Show Saturday from 6-9 p.m. in The Village at Fairview at 333 Town Place (next to Splitsville).

“It’s a show the AP art kids work,” art teacher Brice McCasland said. “It’s the AP 2D and drawing and the AP 3D students, and this year there are 22. We do one AP show a year at the end of the year. It’s just kind of a celebration, a closure, pride fest, you know. It’s a culmination of everything they make. They make a huge body of work throughout the year, and this is really what they’ve been preparing for. It shows a full year of work. It’s a professional space, a gallery space. There’s food and they get to talk about their work.”

As part of the art show there will be work for sale to benefit a non-profit organization.

“There’s going to be work that’s for sale to benefit Kiva, which is a microfinancing company,” McCasland said. “It’s a way for us to lend money to people in need. A lot of places when people lend money there’s really high interest rates, so it’s a way for us to give, basically.”

Each student has multiple pieces for display.

“I’m super excited for the show on Saturday,” AP Art student junior Shannon Ferguson said. “We all have artwork to show that we’ve worked so hard on this whole year, and this is the place where we get to be real artists and show what we’ve done, and even get the chance to have some of them sold. I really hope people will come out and enjoy our art.”
