Although he was unable to see his hometown hockey team play in Anaheim, physics teacher Mike Voth made the best out of his trip to Los Angeles seeing sites such as the Venice Beach outdoor gym.

A trip to southern California to see his hometown hockey team became something a little different for physics teacher Mike Voth. Planning on attending game five of the NHL playoff series between the Winnipeg Jets and the Anaheim Ducks, there would be no hockey game for Voth as his team got eliminated in four games.

“The original plan was to travel to Anaheim to see the Jets vs Ducks game five of the first round of playoffs,” Voth said. “But the Jets lost the series in four games straight.”

Having moved to Texas from Canada in 2007, Voth had not seen his team in the postseason for nearly two decades.

“In 1996, the Jets played the Detroit Red Wings in the first round of the NHL playoffs, and that was back when I happened to go watch all of the home games in Winnipeg,” Voth said. “They haven’t been in the playoffs in a very long time, and this is the first time they have been in it since then.”

Even though there was no game, Voth still enjoyed his trip to California.

“I already had my flight, so I thought I’d still go up to California for the weekend and enjoy the weather there,” Voth said. “It ended up being a good time.”
