Sisterhood of the traveling baton

Physical ability is not always the only skill needed for a track relay. The cohesiveness and chemistry between the relay team is also vital to running the fastest time. This year, sisters, sophomore Noelle and freshman Juliet Franz, will take part in the sixteen hundred meter relay involving 4 runners.
“The Franz sisters are a big part of our track team,” Track Coach Logan Kelly said. “They are track athletes all year round with no breaks. They are our two most serious hurdle athletes, and they are going to help us out with the jumps as well. Juliet is a freshman which is great, and she is a fantastic pole vaulter. Noelle was just selected as one of our track captains for our team. She brings a lot of good leadership. They can be really competitive, but it is all in good fun and continue to make each other better by pushing each other.”
Freshman Juliet Franz participates in the triple jump, long jump, pole vaulting, and runs both the three hundred meter hurdles and four by four relay with her sister. Sophomore Noelle Franz also runs the one hundred meter dash.
“I love running the four by four relay with my sister because we encourage each other before each race and calm each other down which is awesome,” Juliet Franz said. “I love running hurdles with Noelle because we push each other so much, and it gets really competitive between us, but with or without each other, we always give it our all.”
The sisters push each other to become better athletes. At times, they can be very competitive with each other. However, they can also be encouraging and motivate each other to do their best.
“My sister and I can be competitive sometimes,” Noelle Franz said. “We run track in the summer as well, so it teaches us to be our fastest when we race. Being on the same team as my sister is really fun because it gives me a reason to be faster and to push myself harder. It’s also fun to have your best friend on the team.”
