The Leopard bowling team is in the midst of its most successful season in school history as the girls are undefeated and the boys are 4-3. Together, the two teams are competing in the regional meet at 10:00 a.m. Sunday at Rowlett Bowl-a-Rama.

“The boys are going to be up against some tough competition, so we are really rooting for them,” bowling coach Crystal Smith said. “The more support we can get with Leopard nation the better, so come out and bring a chair because seating is going to be limited.”

Although they have been spending extra time practicing, the team could face some challenges with the bowling alley.

“It’s going to be different because where we are bowling has different lanes than where we practice, they are more oily,” senior Gracie Berrett said.

Even though they will be bowling at Rowlett Bowl-a-Rama for the first time, the girls varsity has competed against some of these teams before.

“We are all really excited and it’s like a new thing,” Berrett said. “We don’t really know what to expect, but our chances are really really good going into it. The people we are competing against we have beat before so we have a really good chance of going to state.”

Not only will this competition be a first for the team, but senior Marissa Kunzman is also paving the way for another first.

“We have never in Lovejoy history had a person go to regionals for individuals but I am going to regionals for individuals so it should be pretty cool,” Kunzman said. “It was a pretty difficult road as I had to build up my strength to bowl faster and harder.”

From when she first began bowling to where she is now, Kunzman has seen a lot of improvement in her game.

“At the beginning of the season when the team first begun I bowled a 90 something and now I am bowling a 140 so it kind of leads up to how you bowl,” Kunzman said.

Not only has Kunzman gotten better over time, but the whole team has as well, contributing to their most successful season yet.

“When we started my sophomore year everyone was awful but as time went on we got more used to it and our averages went way way way up,” Berrett said. “Now we are way more confident in our game and our matches are way better and we are just a lot more comfortable and confident as a team.”
