The Interview is worth the watch

The controversial movie starring two comedy powerhouses is definitely worth the watch.

The Interview has received a lot of attention. From the alleged threats made on theaters showing the movie to its subject matter (the assassination of North Korean dictator Kim-Jong Un), the controversy surrounding the movie is more interesting than the movie itself.

The entire movie seems to be a strange combination of different comedic styles ranging from James Franco’s strange portrayal of Dave Skylark to the almost Tarantino-esque ending. That being said, Franco and Seth Rogen work well together and play off each other well. Franco is able to play Skylark as over the top ridiculous in contrast to the more grounded Aaron Rapaport played by Seth Rogen.

Rogen also works well with co-star Diana Bang who plays Sook, a North Korean entertainment coordinator. Bang adds comedic value and compliments Rogen very well. Meanwhile Kim, played by Randall Park delivers a rather unflattering portrayal of the North Korean dictator which lends to the appeal. The audience is able to watch as Skylark and Kim enjoy the excess of American lifestyle as Kim hides the truths of his country.

The movie points out the apathy of American culture in regards to world events and the fact that the media complies with the lack of interest, but the film does little more than point it out.

The Interview should be taken as nothing more than a comedy as it succeeds in that. It is definitely deserving of its “R” rating and the humor can get gross, but all in all it is an entertaining movie worth more than a few laughs.
