Gobble grams thank teachers
November 17, 2014
A Thanksgiving tradition on campus, gobble gram season is in full swing. Sponsored by student council, gobble grams give students the opportunity to express thanks to their teachers.
“I think gobble grams are a great way to let our teachers know that we appreciate them because they do a lot of hard work for us, they teach us every day, and they create lesson plans,” senior Claire Becker said. “So, gobble grams are a great way to let the teachers know that the students see everything they do for us and let them know that we appreciate them.”
Student council members have been busy getting everything ready for delivery this week.
“It took a lot out of us [to make gobble grams] because we had to go through all the papers and cutting and glue[ing] so that all the teachers can get a gobble gram,” Soibhan Pitan said.
It’s something most teachers appreciate.
“I keep every single gobble gram that I receive,” teacher Darla Emerson said. “They mean a lot to me, they are like a pick-me-up, they make you feel better about what you are doing.”
While she enjoys everyone she receives, some mean more to her than others.
“The ones that mean the most to me are the ones that say, ‘Thanks for the time you take out of your day to help me,’ or, ‘Thanks for being so patient with me,’ because I spend a lot of my time tutoring so I like when students acknowledge that,” Emerson said.
While she may not keep all of the gobble gram, art teacher Amanda Beller does cherish a good portion of them.
“I don’t hang onto the generic ones that say, ‘I like your class, it’s fun,’” Beller said. “The ones that mean something to me are the ones that are specific. Like when they say what they’ve learned or what they liked about the class, those are the ones that mean something to me and those are the ones I keep.”
