Marvel has blown their fans’ minds again. After showing off the incredible Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer, the studio decided to reveal its entire line up of films from 2016 to 2019.

The first will be Captain America: Civil War (May 6, 2016).

For those unaware, Civil War is a storyline in the Marvel comics that saw the government order a “Superhero registration act” that required every superhero to answer to the government before doing anything. Iron Man was all for this act, while Captain America was against it, resulting in the two battling each other with their own teams of heroes. This will add a great deal of drama to the Marvel universe, as needless to say nothing will be the same after these events.

The second film announced was the long-awaited Doctor Strange (Nov. 4, 2016).

Many fans knew that Doctor Strange was going to happen eventually, but the official confirmation of the film’s release date was still an exciting announcement for many Marvel fans.

The third film revealed was the sequel to the highest grossing movie of the summer: Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (May 5, 2017). With the massive success of Guardians of the Galaxy, a sequel was inevitable and James Gunn (director of Guardians of the Galaxy) knew this. He had already started writing the script for the sequel as soon as the original was released. Hopefully, this film will be able to continue the fun, energetic nature of its predecessor as well as progress the overall story in a great way.

Up next is the third entry into the Thor series, Thor: Ragnarok (July 28, 2017). While Thor and Thor: The Dark World were fun rides, they didn’t seem to meet the potential Thor’s universe has for a film. Kevin Feige (Head Producer at Marvel Studios) has said that this film will have a major impact on the entire franchise, so this may mean that we could finally have the grand otherworldly adventure we have been waiting for.

The third Marvel film for 2017 is the highly anticipated Black Panther (Nov. 3, 2017). Aside from a few characters such as War Machine and Falcon, there have not been many heroes of color in superhero movies, and even the ones who were main characters were stuck in terrible films (Steel for example). Thankfully, Marvel is here to fix that and according to Feige, “The seeds for the Black Panther movie have already been planted,” and the character has been confirmed to appear in Captain America: Civil War, which will give us a nice tease of what’s to come for his solo movie.

Up next is the very exciting Captain Marvel (July 6, 2018). This film came as quite a surprise to some people as many expected the first female led Marvel film to be a Black Widow solo movie. However, Captain Marvel seems like the more logical choice, as she plays a large role in the Avengers’ stories in the comics. Feige has said that she will be the most powerful hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that her adventures are earth-based but her powers are cosmic-based. So it looks like Marvel will also be responsible for (hopefully) the first good solo female superhero movie.

The next film revealed was Inhumans (Nov. 2, 2018). This is an interesting choice for Marvel because not many people seem to know who or what the Inhumans are. This is a very similar situation when Guardians of the Galaxy was announced as not many people were familiar with these characters, yet that film was a massive success. Hopefully, Inhumans can achieve the same thing and also introduce people to some great characters and stories.

The final films unveiled were the next 2 chapters in the Avengers film legacy.

Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 (May 2018) and Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 (May 2019).

This is it, what Marvel has been building to ever since Nick Fury appeared after the credits of Iron Man. This will be the biggest film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe by far. Feige has said it will be, “A culmination of everything that’s come before.” Unlike the other reveals, this one had a teaser trailer that was comprised of many clips from the previous films showing off the infinity stones. After this montage, the camera zooms out to reveal the infinity gauntlet being wielded by the biggest, baddest villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thanos. Fade to white to reveal the title in solid gold lettering and huge bombastic music perfectly capping off the fantastic Marvel event.

Marvel has proven once again why they are the masters of making comic book movies and how to get fans excited for them.
