Dallas to Houston in ninety minutes
A proposed high speed rail could cut travel time between two Texas cities in half.

Dallas is known for many things, from businesses to restaurants to people. And now, the city might also be known for the first high speed rail line in America. The state plans to build a high speed rail line from Dallas to Houston. The line will be 240 miles long and get passengers between the two cities within 90 minutes.
The project has been in the making for a few months and has recently been approved by the Federal Railroad Association and Texas Department of Transportation. Texas Central will be the company overseeing the project. The plan to build was announced recently at a public meeting in Dallas and was widely accepted.
Texas Central plans to build the rail line with private funds and investors at a cost of $10 billion. The state of Texas will have the power to use eminent domain, which means it could buy private property for the railroad. If funding and eminent domain is secured along with federal approval, then the train could be running by 2021.
Many local residents are looking forward to the opportunities the rail line could bring.
“My work requires me to travel to Houston a lot,” McKinney resident Trey Smith said. “I have to drive to Houston for important meetings at least twice a month and there is nothing worse than being late to one because of traffic. If the new train does get built I will definitely take advantage of it as it gets rid of risks like that.”
