Three movies to look forward to
October 16, 2014
Blockbuster season is over for the most part, but there are still plenty of current and upcoming releases worth checking out. Here’s a quick look at three of the most promising.
Annabelle (in theaters now)
The Conjuring was a breath of fresh air in this current state of horror films. It reminded us that you don’t need any CGI or “found footage” to be scary, you just need to build an effective atmosphere and a real sense of actual terror. One of the highlights of The Conjuring was the doll Annabelle (which was actually a Raggedy Anne doll in the true story this is based on). So, naturally, with more of its story yet to be told, we are now getting the aforementioned spin-off Annabelle which can hopefully match the high standards set by its predecessor.
Birdman (Oct. 17)
Birdman is a black comedy that tells the story of an actor famous for portraying an iconic superhero as he struggles to mount a Broadway play. In the days leading up to opening night, he battles his ego and attempts to rekindle his family, his career, and himself. In a world where superhero movies are everywhere, taking on every genre, getting every director, actor or writer you can think of, Birdman is likely to be one of the most unique in the bunch. It is a fantastic idea, with a wonderful cast that will hopefully live up to the hype.
Interstellar (Nov. 7)
A group of explorers use a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations of human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage. Interstellar has had a lot of hype around it ever since the first very short teaser was released, but this movie from director Christopher Nolan has high hopes for its ambitious story.
