Saturday will be anything but a typical weekend day for many students and staff as the school will be hosting the UIL District Meet beginning at 8 a.m.

“It’s always nerve wracking when you host UIL, because anything that does go wrong is completely on your hands,” Debate Team Coach Tami Parker said. “But I have a very strong team this year and I am confident we are as prepared as we can be. And I have a lot of kids who are comfortable making other schools feel right at home.”

While some coaches are feeling quite confident, other coaches feel they could have prepared their students more.

“I think the kids could have prepared more, but honestly I think we will do just fine,” UIL science coach Jason Taylor said. “All of my kids are dedicated and look forward to competing.”

Students and teachers alike agree that while UIL is nerve wracking, it can give students a chance to show what they have accomplished.

“I think I am ready for UIL,” UIL science team member Michael Pezzulli said. “We have put in a lot of practice and work to learn everything we need to know to get ready. I’m confident in my team.”

While some people on campus are nervous, the school is as ready as ever to take on the challenge and proceed to regionals.

“I’m just excited for these district competitions to be over so we can begin preparing for regionals,” Taylor said.
