Thank god for Ellen Degeneres’s perky personality, or else the entire Oscars nights predictability likely would have capsized it. Granted, it wasn’t like the predictability was in and of itself a bad thing, especially since it meant many worthy people went home with prestigious awards. Still, Martin Scorsese and Harrison Ford’s shenanigans with pizza were by far the highlight of the evening, as well as John Travolta’s hilarious flubs with Idina Menzel’s name.

Now, let’s see how I did in my predictions for these categories, shall we?

Best Picture

Surprise surprise, 12 Years A Slave went home a winner here, just like I predicted.

Best Actor

Alright alright, McConaughey, who won for Dallas Buyers Club, is an Oscar winning actor. Another correct prediction for me, though it would have been neat for Chiwetel’s powerful performance in 12 Years A Slave, to be rewarded.

Best Actress

This one at times seemed like it could result in some kind of unexpected victory, but Blanchett, for Blue Jasmine, wound up the winner here, just as I expected.

Best Supporting Actor

For good reason, Jared Leto, for Dallas Buyers Club, won this one.

Best Supporting Actress

While this award was always Lupitas to lose, I went back and forth on who I thought should get it. I said Lawrence, but I think Lupita, who won for 12 Years A Slave, actually did deserve it the most after all.

Best Director

Thank God, my prediction that Alfonso Cuaron’s groundbreaking work in Gravity would be recognized turned out to be accurate.

Well folks, that does it for the Oscar Run. Hope you guys enjoyed my thoughts and commentary as much as I enjoyed writing them. Thanks for reading, and also, thank you Bill Murray for that tribute to Harold Ramis. Way to make yourself even more amazing!
