Manjestics take center stage

The guys are still learning. Step by step, turn by turn; the football player, the basketball player, the lacrosse player – all struggling to get it down. Diagram a sports play on the board and it’s instinctive; choreograph a routine for them, it’s a foreign language. It’s all part of the Majestics Spring Show April 24-26 where it’s a yearly tradition to have a “guy-girl” dance.
Every Monday evening through April 21, a group of junior and senior guys- sometimes known as Manjestics-practice their dance for the Majestics’ Spring Show.
“It’s hard memorizing every step while focusing on the beat and timing, especially for a bunch of amateurs like us,” senior Daniel Sefcik said.
The “guy-girl” dance, choreographed and taught by senior Master Sergeant Jayme Allen and Senior Sergeant Rachel Segal, is an annual dance where junior and senior Majestics choose partners to join them in their performance.
“It’s very difficult to learn choreography and I have a whole new respect for the dancers who do it on a daily basis,” senior Ryan Ford said.
Regardless of what they are working on, there’s often something entertaining.
“It was funny watching all the guys try to mimic Jayme,” junior Noah Coffee said.
Although the first practice started slow, the guys were able to pick it up fast and get it down by the end of the hour.
“They were actually able to learn the dance really fast,” Segal said. “They started having fun with it and that makes the whole thing look a ton better.”
For some of the guys, this is an experience they’ve wanted to do for a long time.
“I’m super stoked to dance in the Manjestics Spring Show because I’ve been watching it since my brother was in it his junior year and I’ve always wanted to do it since then,” senior Riley Bevan said. “The first day of practice was a lot of fun, and I can’t wait to perform the real deal.”
As well as dancing on their own, the guys are taught how to partner dance and do lifts with the Majestics.
“Get ready ladies,” Nick Johnson said.
