New magazine informs community
February 26, 2014
A brand new magazine is arriving in local mailboxes called Estate Life Fairview & Lucas; a monthly, privately distributed social magazine for Fairview and Lucas neighborhoods.
“After conducting some focus groups with local residents we felt there was an opportunity to fill a void for Fairview and Lucas with a publication like ours,” publisher David Williams said. “Our vision is to help turn neighborhoods into communities and our concept is like a yearbook for the community or facebook in print at a neighborhood level. ”
Estate Life will not only be in student’s neighborhoods, it will also feature the work of the school’s newspaper.
“We view Lovejoy High School as being the heart of this Fairview-Lucas community,” publisher Brett Williams said. “We felt partnering with The Red Ledger would be an awesome way to give the journalism students a platform to share their talents, articles and also add to their resume if they are going to pursue a career in journalism.”
For the staff of The Red Ledger, it’s an opportunity to reach a wider audience.
“When the publishers of Estate Life approached me about a possible partnership, it didn’t take long to realize how beneficial such a relationship could be,” newspaper adviser Brian Higgins said. “Beyond giving students another outlet in which to have their work published, we strive to be more than a high school newspaper. Our goal is for The Red Ledger to be the news source for the Lovejoy community, and by partnering with Estate Life we hope to expand our audience.”
In addition to local news, Estate Life hosts social events for residents to provide opportunities to meet neighbors and build relationships, as well as executive networking events.
“Our publication, Estate Life Fairview & Lucas, primarily focuses on and features human interest articles that relate to the residents living in the communities we work with. The vast majority of our content and photographs are submitted by the residents, we give them a platform to share their stories and passions with their neighbors which is why we refer to ourselves as being like a Facebook/Yearbook in print on a neighborhood level,” Brett Williams said. “Estate Life does not go to all of Fairview & Lucas, our business model is different from other local magazines. Our publication is distributed monthly, free of charge to 29 exclusive Fairview & Lucas neighborhoods.”
