Robotics advances to state
February 19, 2014
The robotics team has earned a spot in the state championship Saturday, Feb. 22
in Greenville. The team advanced to state after a strong showing in the regional meet in Richardson.
Four robots were sent to compete with all four having made it in the quarterfinals. Two reached the finals, and one won it all, defeating a previously undefeated robot from a private Mandarin Chinese school in Dallas, ranked number one in Texas. However the winning didn’t stop there, as the team took home the excellence in design award as well.
“We had two of our four robots qualify for the state finals. In Greenville, the best in the state will be competing for the state title,” robotics teacher Brian Lidington said. “If we win we earn a trip to California for the world competition, so the best robots from Asia, Europe, and all over the world will compete. I think we have a good chance in Greenville on Saturday, and our students have been working diligently to make the best robots we can. I think we have been practicing, and upgrading, and strategizing enough to have a real shot this Saturday.”
