Whether you had a breakup or just didn’t snag anyone to spend the day with, here are 20 songs that will give you superman (or superwoman) like confidence to conquer Valentine’s Day if you’re by yourself.

20. “Since You Been Gone” -A Day to Remember

Everyone knows Kelly Clarkson’s girl power classic, but this popular band flawlessly covered the song to give it a harder edge that even guys will have to sing along to.

19. “Shook Me All Night Long” -AC/DC

A true feel good rock classic by the rock legends. Even though you may not have someone to shake it with, you can certainly do an air guitar solo to this one.

18. “I Can Lift A Car” -Walk the Moon

This song is the anthem of empowerment. Walk the Moon, an up and coming alternative band, blows it out of the water with the lyrics “I can lift a car up all by myself”. This song assures you that you don’t need anyone to accomplish things you can do all by yourself.

17. “Perfectly Lonely” -John Mayer

The title says it all. Cherish your half day of Netflix, parties or sleep because you have “nothing to do, nowhere to be. A simple little kind of free.”

16. “Landslide” -Fleetwood Mac

This 1975, folk rock song is one of the most popular songs by a band that has gone down in history. Just put this record on repeat and have a good cry.

15. “The Phoenix” -Fall Out Boy

If you could put teenage angst in one song, this would be it. A driven, consistent beat gets you excited and guarantees immediate happiness. Plus let’s face it, most girls wish Patrick Stump was their Valentine.

14. “I Will Survive” -Gloria Gaynor

Not many people are going to be digging the disco on Valentine’s Day, but this track is certainly a classic break up that is a secret guilty pleasure of many.

13. “Bye Bye Bye” -‘N Sync

A throwback, break up classic featuring the original boyband heartthrobs. This song just passed it’s 14th anniversary and still going strong.

12.  “I Don’t Care” -Fall Out Boy

Valentine’s Day? Who cares? Fall Out Boy doesn’t. This song is another great one that literally states “I don’t care what you think.” The ultimate fearless song for a single person brave enough to face Valentine’s Day head on.

11. “Train in Vain” -The Clash

Labled 298 on Rolling Stone’s The 500 Greatest Hits of All Time, the british punk band that many singles on Valentine’s Day can relate to.

10. “You Give Love a Bad Name” -Bon Jovi

A sour song about love gone bad by one of the most well known names in rock. Valentine’s Day break ups are the hardest and this song is a tip of the hat to whoever turned your hallmark card day bitter.

9. “Love Drunk” -Boys Like Girls

This one may be a blast from the middle school past, but it certainly describes most break ups. You don’t have to tell anyone you broke out your Boys Like Girls CD from middle school. Giving this song a listen might make you smile and bring you back to the days when liking someone meant wanting to share a seat on the bus.

8. “Ridin’ Solo” -Jason Derulo

If you’re into the obnoxious, pretty boy pop stars like Mr. Derulo than this song might be the perfect song to listen to while you ride home solo this Valentine’s Day.

7. “Can’t Hold Us” -Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

These Grammy winners knock it out of the park with the best party anthem since Party Rock Anthem (which actually wasn’t ever very good to begin with). Macklemore has definitely made a statement about individuality so it only makes sense you that you add him to your single mix.

6. “Fool to Love You” -John Mayer

If you thought Mayer was only a lovey dovey, handsome singer-songwriter, you are sadly mistaken. This track is perfect for those still bitter over someone. Be glad they aren’t your problem anymore while you listen to this feel good song.

5. “Leave It Up to Me” -The Mowgli’s

Did you mess it up this Valentine’s Day? Don’t worry everyone has. This song is encouraging while still admitting that everyone messes up sometimes. Definitely a rhythmic, spirit lifter.

4. “Single Ladies” -Beyonce

It never gets old. Just please forgo the black leotard.

3. “Runaway Baby” -Bruno Mars

Aside from the fact that Mars is fairly easy on the eyes, this Grammy winning artist warns women that he can’t be trusted. This incredibly catchy song is fun and uplifting, but is a fair warning that Bruno Mars may not be the most reliable Valentine.

2. “Someone Like You” -Adele

This song was plastered as a song for the broken hearted back in 2011. Who says we can’t give it a little revival?

1. “Better Off This Way” -A Day to Remember

Listen to this song 48 times while screaming the chorus and it will be like your relationship never happened. Promise.

No matter what you listen to in the car this Valentine’s Day, please remember to stay safe and don’t dance and drive.

*Songs are ranked in no particular order and may affect an individual’s happiness level differently depending on (but not limited to) number of guitar solos, genre of music and attractiveness of lead singer*
