Things I love, but probably shouldn’t

-Small, Dark Places
I’ve dubbed myself a claustrophile, which by definition is “a person with an abnormal desire to be closed in.” I’m not sure what it is about being in complete confinement that is so soothing to me, but even as a small child whenever I would get angry or sad or overwhelmed, the first place to look for me would be either in the corner of my closet, behind all my clothes, or in the small area between my bed and the wall. My favorite places now are in my sister’s armoire and the extra locker in my locker room, where I sometimes lock myself before practice for a quick nap.
-Playing with Fire
I’m a classic pyromaniac. Candles, bonfires, matches, I love them all. I love watching things burn. I know a lot of people will agree with me on this, but we all know playing with fire probably shouldn’t be so enjoyable, because “when you play with fire, you’re going to get burned.”
-The Smell of Bleach
Inhaling a nice bleachy waft of air is definitely on my list of things I like. I’m pretty sure this strange affinity for bleach spurred from my countless days in chlorinated public pools, as someone who swam on a competitive team from ages 3 to 13. Even the bleach in cleaning products will make me smile. I could sit next to a smelly pool all day reading a book and enjoying the scent of bleach in the breeze.
-Corners
My favorite part of any room is the corner. Not only because of my claustrophilia, but also because of my distaste for people (as highlighted in my previous blog post). To explain the relation between corners and people- I have this idea that the corner of the room is the safest area of the room because you have full vision of everyone in the room and no one can sneak up behind you and hug you.
-Bones
Bones are beautiful and I love them and I like to draw little skeletons everywhere and it’s not in a creepy way, I just think they’re so cute.
-Sylvia Plath
For those of you who don’t know, Sylvia Plath is a poet famous for being neurotic and writing about it through poems and her semi-autobiographical novel “The Bell Jar” (which is my favorite book and I recommend it to all). My favorite poems of hers are “Mirror”, and “I am Vertical”. I have been told by English teachers that my affections for Plath are out of the ordinary, but she’s hands down my favorite poet of all time.
-Rats and Snakes
These are two of my favorite animals, and while it’s more common to fear these creatures, I plan to have them as pets in the future. They’re adorable. Also, go Slytherin.
