Oscar Run X
December 17, 2013
But those Golden Globe nominations though, we have got to talk about them.
Kudos where kudos are due, I had a feeling that American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street would be contenders in Best Motion Picture Musical/Comedy but man, I wasn’t expecting Her to be in that category too. Now, admittedly, I haven’t seen the film yet, but from that melancholy (and brilliant) trailer, I doubt it could share space with films like This Is The End. Aside from that, things played as expected, although Saving Mr. Banks and The Butler getting shut out of many pivotal categories was damaging to their Oscar chances while Rush getting in was a surprise to say the least.
Now, onto the latest Awards nominations. The 2013 Critic Choice Awards put up their picks for Best Picture Tuesday and their eerily similar to my predictions for Oscars Best Picture, right down to putting Dallas Buyers Club in there. Something else that can be gleaned from these nominations is that Rush is getting a larger presence than I originally predicted, with Daniel Bruhl getting a Best Supporting Actor nod here while late contenders American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street are making up considerable ground in recent weeks.
Well guys, I’ll be taking a break over Christmas Break (I’m sure the hard-working editors here appreciate that!) but when I get back from the break I’ll have a slightly larger edition of Oscar Run in which I discuss in detail the films I see over the break and how they might fare at the Oscars.
Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and please rent Pacific Rim and/or Before Midnight over the break. You’ll thank me later!
