Leopards halt Hallsville’s season
November 18, 2013
In arguably one of the greatest comebacks in Leopard history, the team defeated Hallsville after a 22 point deficit to become Bi-District champions.
After being down 48-26, the team fought back to win 55-51.
At the half, the Leopards were down 27-26, fans expected the team to come out at half-time and step up however, that was not the case.
Hallsville scored three touchdowns in a row making the score 48-26 to start off the second half and the vibe in Athens was knocked down a few notches.
With 3:23 left in the third quarter, senior Chochy Luce scored a touchdown and the Leopards finally did something in the second half. It was 48-33. That was the end of scoring for the third quarter.
The fourth quarter began and it was do or die. The Leopards had the ball in the red zone and Luce attempted a rushing touchdown. He fumbled. However, to the Leopards luck, senior Grant Jarvis recovered the fumble in the Leopards’ end zone for a touchdown. The score was 48-40.
The gap was closing and the momentum was building. Then, the unbelievable happened.
Senior Tate Locklear intercepted the ball on the Hallsvile 3 for a 97 yard touchdown return.
The Leopards then went for the two point conversion and were successful. The game was tied at 48.
The Bobcats scored a field goal with 5:37 left in the game but the Leopards one upped that as sophomore Aaron Fuller scored a touchdown with 2:10 left in the game making the score 55-51, which would be the final.
The defense held Hallsville well in those last two minutes to secure the Leopard victory and to continue the season.
