The boy’ cross country team brought home second place from the State Meet in Round Rock.

The team finished behind Houston Stratford, tallying 111 points. The higher a runner places, the lower the score he receives. The team with the lowest acumulative score is crowned the winner.

“I am really proud of how our team did, but I hope to do even better next year,” sophomore Noah Landguth said.

Landguth placed 3rd on the team, and 42nd out of 113 total racers. Grant Ballard, Kendall Joiner, and Landguth all placed in the top 50. Most of the racers were upperclassmen, but two freshman faces made their way into the meet.

“I was happy to get a chance to race in the state meet,” freshman Grant Tiff said. “I think we were in a nice groove on Saturday and I hope to race again next year.”

Fellow freshman Kendall Taylor, who finished 108th, also competed alongside Tiff, who placed 96th.

“Obviously I was happy to even be in the race but I think that I could’ve placed better and helped the team out a little more,” Taylor said.

Meanwhile the cross country team will get back to practice in hopes of another shot at a state title.

“I enjoy watching this group of runners mature and grow as athletes,” coach Greg Christiansen said. “I know they will continue to be successful.”
