It feels really, really weird writing this article means it’s been an entire year since I last wrote my list of Most Anticipated Holiday Season Movies for 2012. Where has the time gone? Ah well, let’s not let the past divert us from this article’s purpose; let you know what movies I am superbly looking forward to in November and December 2013.

10. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – The first Hobbit was a good adventure, and it looks like Peter Jackson has upped the ante with this sequel, which introduces the major antagonist Smaug The Dragon. While Smaug and new characters Beorn and Bard The Bowman, should be great to watch, I really hope they delve more into the Dwarves and Bilbo Baggins and see how this major quest is taking it’s toll on those poor characters. With so many interesting things it can potentially do, The Desolation of Smaug could wind up being one of the best movies of the Holiday Season.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D December 13th.

9. Dallas Buyers Club – Matthew McConaughey continues his streak of fascinating film roles with this film, which looks to have one of the more promising premises of the Holiday Season. Throw in an intriguing Jared Leto role and some humorous moments in the trailer, and this looks to be yet another superb film for Mr. McConaughey.

Dallas Buyers Club will be released November 1st in limited release.

8. Thor: The Dark World – One of my favorite Marvel heroes gets a sequel in what I’m hoping turns out to be another fantastic entry into the ever expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe. With new director Alan Taylor (who has previously directed episodes of Games of Thrones) onboard, not to mention exploring how these characters are dealing with the events of The Avengers, here’s to hoping that lightning strikes twice for this super franchise.

Thor: The Dark World will be released November 8th in 3D and IMAX 3D.

7. Out Of The Furnace – Scott Cooper made a brilliant directorial debut with Crazy Heart, a stunningly underrated flick that displayed one of Jeff Bridges best performances. Here, he’s working with a larger ensemble cast, one that I hope brings Cooper’s story to riveting life. The trailer shows an intense and touching tale of a man searching for his brother in an untamed land. Christian Bale (who’s everywhere this December), Woody Harrelson, Willem Dafoe, Sam Shepard; the cast alone would make this anticipated, but the wonderful writer/director puts it to the next level.

Out of The Furnace will be released December 6th.

6. Anchorman: The Legend Continues – Where’d you get this anticipated list, the toilet store? 60 percent of the time, this list is right, every time. After reading this whole list, you’ll be in a glass case of emotion. THE BAD MAN PUNTED BAXTER!!! The point I’m trying to make through all these quotes is that I love Anchorman, and the sequel looks to bring back all the cast members and zany antics that made the first film so perfect. I can’t wait to see big actors like Kristen Wiig, Harrison Ford and James Marsden interact with such beloved characters like Brick and Ron Burgundy. What I’m trying to say is; milk was a bad choice, this movie is not.

Anchorman: The Legend Continues will be released December 20th.

5. The Wolf of Wall Street – Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese’s latest film will thankfully get released in 2013, and I for one cannot wait. This one, showing the epitome of excess, brings a massive cast and some really off-the-wall shenanigans. The trailer, keeping the primary plot a mystery, shows off the films balance of humor, story and the awesomeness of Matthew McConaughey. Needless to say, I’m giddy with anticipation at what Scorsese has cooked up this time.

The Wolf of Wall Street will be released December 25th.

4. American Hustle – Silver Linings Playbook was a fantastic  film, one that owes much of it’s success to visionary director David O. Russell. Now, with his latest film, he’s bringing back many cast members from his previous two films, and the results are shaping up to phenomenal. This cast seems to be firing on all cylinders and the entire film looks to be a riveting experience. Words cannot express how excited I am to see if Russell has made his best film yet.  If the trailers any indication, he just might have.

American Hustle will be released December 13th in limited release, it will be in theatres everywhere December 18th.

3. Frozen – Disney has been firing on all cylinders, with Tangled, Winnie The Pooh and Wreck-It Ralph restoring the animation studio to it’s former glory. Frozen looks to be continuing that trend by incorporating beautiful animation, plentiful laughs and some memorable characters (none more so than Olaf The Snowman, who looks to be the film’s scene-stealer).  As a man who holds Disney very close to his heart, I’m cautiously optimistic that Frozen can uphold the tradition of quality cinema Disney has been known to offer and then some.

Frozen will be released November 27th in 3D.

2. Her – Spike Jonze has spent a whole career subverting the norm, but it looks like he may have just outdone himself with this movie, which deals with a man falling in love. The difference is his object of affection is a piece of technology, one voiced by Scarlett Johansson. This movie looks to handle the topic of romance in a fascinating manner, and with some expert actors to boot (Rooney Mara and Amy Adams are also in the film), Jonze has constantly delivered with his previous work, and I really hope he delivers on all the potential this original premise provides.

Her opens December 20th in limited release and will be in theatres everywhere January 10th.

1. Inside Llewyn Davis –  Is there really anyone in Hollywood more beloved than The Coen Brothers? The duo have made a continuous streak of excellent movies, including the 2010 gem True Grit. With this film, they tackle a solemn and fascinating tale dealing with a folk music musician. For this film, I actually had a unique experience discovering it’s existence.  While I usually watch trailers online, I had somehow missed the trailer for Inside Llewyn Davis. When I saw The World’s End, the trailer popped up and blew me away. I got swept up in the imagery, the music, the story; I immediately knew this was going to be something to anticipate.  To put it simply; I cannot wait to see this film.

Inside Llewyn Davis opens December 6th in limited release and will open in more theatres throughout December.
