A new way to get around

GoTaps, a new public transit system in the area, is providing rides to local residents. Using green and blue buses, it’s the one of the few mass transit options in the community.
“TAPS Public Transit provides on-demand, curb-to-curb transit services in Collin, Grayson, Fannin, Cooke, Montague, Clay, and Wise counties,” TAPS said on its website FAQ section. “Select fixed routes also take passengers to/from Durant, Oklahoma on the Red River Route. Specialized school routes take employees and students to and from campuses. In McKinney, Texas TAPS operates the intercity bus service. TAPS also offers a premium service shuttle from Sherman and McKinney, to the DART Parker Road Station. TAPS also operates an express shuttle from Durant, OK., Sherman, TX and McKinney, TX to/from both DFW Airport in Grapevine and Love Field in Dallas.”
This public transportation service acts as a curb-to-curb taxi that runs on specialized routes to aid local residents in daily travel. Because it runs local routes to area schools, it can also act as a service to students.
GoTAPS runs both scheduled routes with designated stops and a curb-to-curb service with which a customer can call and request a scheduled pick-up. General rates for an in-town service are $2.00 one way, while out-of-town one-way services are $3.00. One can also purchase a monthly pass for unlimited trips, in-town for $82.00 and out-of-town for $102.00.
“I feel that it’s a good idea,” freshman Cedrick Mattli said. “Since in our area it’s very spread out, however it seems like it’s a business that hasn’t developed very far, in this area, at least.
Despite the alternate travel provided, some students simply have no need for the service, but GoTAPS remains an option for people in the area that have a need for public transit.
