Season 9, more like season fine
October 9, 2013
Angels falling from the sky is not out of the ordinary on the CW’s Supernatural. That was the case the last time we saw protagonist’s Sam, Dean and Castiel in the season eight finale, but Supernatural returned Tuesday, October 8 (moving from Wednesdays last season) to pick the audience up right where the series left off on May 15. It’s the most surprising and spoiler extreme finale the show has had since season five.
The episode had a few surprising returns from fan favorites that haven’t been seen in a while as well as a new character named Ezekiel, played by Tahmoh Penikett, and definitely will leave fans who have yet to watch the episode plugging their ears if someone spoils it.
The show’s three lead actors, Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins delivered stellar performances and still are maintaining the on screen chemistry they have had since their character’s met. As always, Sam and Dean’s faith will be put to the test this season, and will leave fans rooting for them to get through another season of struggle.
Their trust in each other and trust in their destiny will be put to the test in ways viewers have not seen since season five. Collins in particular, given the changes his character, Castiel, has gone through since the season eight finale, gave an outstanding performance. Diehard fans will notice his minor, but important choices, in his facial expressions and general mannerisms that are rather different than anything else his character would have done up until this point. It will be exciting to see the changes Castiel goes through for the rest of the season and the important choices he makes.
Overall, it looks like it is going to be a compelling season for the show, and will live up to the excitement of season eight, and will grip fans to continue watching on Tuesday’s at 8 p.m. on the CW. Fans will agree with the season premiere’s title: “I Think I’m Gonna Like It Here”.
