For the first time in school history the Lady Leopard softball team will be traveling to Austin, Texas to compete in the 4A state championship tournament. The team will face off in the semifinal against Foster High School on Friday, May 31 at 9:00 a.m. at the University of Texas.
With the move to 4A, the softball team, like most other Leopard teams, faced tougher competition which has prepared them for the state.
“District was a lot more competitive this year than it was last year,” sophomore Danielle Brochu said.
While district did help prepare the team, their preseason games were where they faced they the toughest competition.
“Even though district play was good competition, pre-season was where we got most prepared and grew the most as a team,” Brochu said.
The Lady Leopards will face off against the Foster High School Falcons in the semifinal round. If they win, they advance to the state championship.
“We don’t know much about Foster,” senior Sammi Curry said. “Our plan is to just go out and play our game like we know how.”
Lately , the Leopards have been on a hot streak.
“Our defense has been pretty solid recently,” Brochu said. “If we make our routine plays defensively, we should be good against Foster. We just need to keep hitting the ball. If we hit the ball we will win the game.”
The players are very excited to be representing the school at state for the first time in school history.
“I am so pumped for state,” Brochu said. “We have been working really hard for this for a long time. It has been a long season but it had been totally worth it. Our team has really been playing well together and getting along on and off the field so I’m super excited to go to Austin.”
