Since I am undeniably one of the coolest people to ever walk the halls of this school, one would think I would never dress up for spirit days because they are below me, because I am far too amazing to show any spirit.
Wrong.
I love spirit days like hobbits love potatoes. I think it’s cooler to dress up than to not. What’s better than showing the world that you have enough confidence to dress in ridiculously garish outfits and annoy people with your seriously awful hat? Well, a lot of things probably, but this is up there.
Having a day to just cut loose and be crazy is a gift that we should all take advantage of. It’s a day when nobody judges you for wearing your “Dumb and Dumber” tuxedo or your San Antonio Spurs santa hat. Some days get a lot of participation, but others don’t. That’s sad, because I can’t believe other teenagers would pass up a chance to not worry about outfits and presentation and be stupid.
Personally, I take advantage of every spirit day. I know this won’t last forever, and I know I won’t get as many chances to do these crazy things the older I get. In the name of youth, I claim these days as my right and privilege to look awful and not care at all.
It’s one school day. Swallow your pride and go crazy. Save your adorable dresses and your classy boots for another day, pull out your ugly cat sweater and neon parachute pants, and embrace the weirdness.
