Just before intermission at Cirque du Majestique, this years Majestic Spring Show, and the mood began to change. A popular song that didnn’t seem to fit the circus theme started to play, as four girls that most people don’t recognize are on stage.
They were the Sloan Creek Color guard, performing some of the skills they have learned while preparing to enter the high school’s color guard in the years to come.
Carrie Cunningham, who graduates at the end of this school year, has been the only member of the color guard for the 2012-2013 season. Although performing alone was a challenge to overcome, she believes that anyone with interest in dancing and performing should consider color guard as a way to have fun and get fit.
“I think it’s really good that the Sloan Creek Guard is performing because I don’t want anyone to have to go through what I did,” Cunningham said. “It was really scary at first but I knew that I had 5 years of experience previous to this, and yeah it helped me grow as a performer but it was difficult and I think that they should have a team.”
Majestics director and Fine Arts coordinator Fela Lowrance looks forward to the possibilities colorguard holds in the future.
“We’re really excited for the potential that this program has,” Lowrance said. “This past year, we had Carrie at the high school, and so they began to develop a middle school colorguard to try to build the program. We know there’s cool things that we can do with both a Winterguard and color guard and so we hope that we can have the opportunity to do so.”

A new article should be written about the current highschool color guard and about how most of colorguard have never been in color guard before, but are duing an awesome job and are not letting anything stop them! colorguard is devoting alot of time out of school do to the lack of a colorguard class.

Great idea. We have actually already assigned a reporter that story and it will be published next week when the football team no longer has a buy, that way it will be timely with the color guard’s performance. Thanks for reading, we always love to hear input!
