Coming back after nearly a week off due to spring break, the softball team played a home district game against Sherman Tuesday night.
The junior varisty game, beginning at 5:30 p.m., ended with a resounding win by the Leopards. The final score against the Bear Cats’ JV team was 14-5, with sophomore Samantha O’Brien hitting a home run.
The varsity game, beginning at 7 p.m., started off slowly for the Leopards. Allowing four runs to be scored on them in the first inning and only gaining one back, the varsity team entered the second inning down by three. However, in the third inning, the Leopards pulled ahead, with a record three home runs in one inning. The home runs were hit by sophomore Amanda Conner and senior Brittany Lewis, and senior Sammi Curry hit a grand slam.
Although both teams scored more runs, the Leopards never lost the lead they gained in the third inning. With a final score of 13-9, varsity softball maintained its perfect district record.
The next game is Friday at Royse City. JV plays at 5:30 p.m. and varsity plays at 7 p.m.
