Many students would love free Mavs tickets and a night with the most influential people in the leadership business, and that is exactly what a select group of students got. The student council received an opportunity to attend a leadership seminar and workshop with the Dallas Mavericks leadership team and then attend the game later that night.
“What they do is invite all of the student councils from all over Texas for this event. The doors open at 4 p.m., and you go in and we’ll do a series of leadership seminars or workshops” student council teacher Tami Parker said. “They are led by key people on the Dallas Mavericks leadership team.”
The event was packed with a lot of knowledgeable leaders sharing their years of experience with the council.
“It was an awesome experience and I think we all learned a lot” junior Courtney DuVal said. “It’s definitely a privilege to be apart of such an awesome student council.”
After the two hours of seminars and workshops, the students were escorted to their own section for a complimentary game experience.
“We did have to sit up in the corner, but it was still a blast and we all really appreciated that they could hook us up like that,” junior Alex Hopkinson said.
The event was a huge success and all involved benefitted tremendously from it, but is not the first time student council has had a chance to participate in an event like this one with the Mavs.
“Student council does a lot of things; we go to state convention, that’s in Arlington, and every student council from the entire state of Texas comes,” Parker said. “What’s wonderful is my kids will see kids they met at state last year, and a lot of them have made contacts that way and they share information and it’s just a great way for them to get some of those leadership pieces that we need and that we’re working on.”
