The school year is over, but the teachers’ work is far from over. After just a few short weeks of summer they are already back in action participating in the annual Learning at Lovejoy.
This program is mandatory for each district employee, but the teachers see this as a helpful and fun event.
“I see Learning at Lovejoy as a wonderful opportunity for everyone in the district to get together and share what different types of knowledge we have with each other,” third grade teacher Courtney Alford said. “It is also an opportunity to hear what professionals with years of experience have to offer.”
Held at the high school, many famous speakers are brought in for the staff’s benefit.
Over the years Lovejoy has flown in people like Dr. Thomas Guskey and Dr. Larry Lezotte; both of which are well recognized in the education world.
Aside from having outside sources at the summer program, the district also chooses teachers and staff members to speak as well.
“I have been chosen to speak before and it is a very humbling experience. We are a part of such a prestigious district, it is truly an honor to be hand picked to share your knowledge with the rest of the staff,” seventh grade teacher Leigh Bellows said.
Learning at Lovejoy ends August 2.
