Prom. The word holds many different emotions for people: excitement, anticipation, joy. For some though, prom strikes fear and dread into the hearts of attendees because of the astronomical cost. There is a long-standing belief that guys pay more for prom than girls. But is that really true?
– Nichole Wierschem, senior: “I paid for my whole prom since my boyfriend goes to another school and paid for his prom. I spent about $1200 all in all.”
– Danielle Stevens, senior: “I paid about $600 for my dress and shoes and everything like that, and that’s all I had to pay for.”
– Will McInerney, senior: “I paid $340 for both my date and me.”
– Josh Fisher, junior: “I would say about $300 for both me and my date.”
– Brandon Scott, junior: “It was about $550 for me and my girl.”
– Tanner DeVinny, junior: “For dinner and tickets and my tux and the limo, I paid $520. It was for both my date and me.”
According to the Lovejoy Poll Committee (me), guys paid an average of $430, while girls paid an average of $260. So, with some exceptions and outliers, this particular prom myth proved true. There were certainly outliers on either side of the spectrum though.

Waste of money. Period. Save it for something better.

Like The Avengers in IMAX 3D? 😉
Seriously though, I agree it’s a bit of a waste due to the amount of teachers and restrictions. One wonders why they just don’t go to some fancy resteraunt with their pals. Sounds like a better date night to me!

Exactly. People need to realize that everything is overpriced, especially the tickets. The school rips you off and the constant monitoring of the admin is ridiculous. If they were so conceded about the dancing, hold prom at a church and see how many people attend then.
