Leopards tip off playoff push
February 13, 2012
With district play coming to an end, both Leopard basketball teams are playoff bound.
The Lady Leopard’s first game will be played tonight against Carrollton Ranchview in The Colony. The girls finished the regular season in third place in District 11-3A at 6-4, behind first place Princeton (10-0) and second place Lone Star (8-2). Meanwhile, Carrolton Ranchview went 8-2 in it’s season, finishing in second place in District 12-3A.
“Getting here makes me feel like all of our months of hard work have finally paid off,” sophomore Stefanie Lewerenz said. “It feels so rewarding and now we are ready to give it our complete all!”
The boy’s basketball team is also playoff bound, but still has to finish out district play. The boys are ranked 25th in the state, and are tied for second with Princeton (also 6-2).
“We have come pretty far, I feel that we have a lot of talent on this basketball team and great coaching,” junior Jake Flaggert said. “We have had a few tough losses, but if we play to our full potential we are a hard team to beat”.
The boys have officially clinched their playoff spot. But before they can begin, playoffs, there is a possibility there will be a District 11-3A playoff for seeding. Going into the final district game tomorrow, the Leopards are tied with Princeton and Lone Star for first place, resulting in a possible re-match this weekend.
“I expect to win state,” Flaggert said. “Some people doubt us, but I feel confident that we can. We just have to take it one game at a time and get out there and play our hearts out”.
