Varsity girl’s soccer has record-breaking season

The girl’s varsity soccer team finished their  best season in school history, with 13 clean sheets and 15 wins.

“This season is the best I’ve seen the team play over my last four years with Lovejoy soccer,” senior defenseman Jordan Watson said. “The chemistry between the team has been really good on and off the field. We have played really challenging teams, and we all have stepped up and beaten a lot of teams that we couldn’t in years past.”

The freshman class has been a key reason in why the team is having a very successful season, according to Watson.

“The incoming freshmen, Cambry Patrick, Taylor Person, Kate Carlson, and Nicole Young have all played big minutes this year.” Watson said. “They have really stepped up and impacted the team greatly.”

The team prepares for games by looking at opponent game film and capitalizing on their mistakes to win games.

“The team prepares for games, in practice, by going over the opponent’s strengths and weaknesses,” senior Natalie Reyna said. “A big part of our preparation is how we warm up and the mindset we have going into the game.”

The team focuses on their own weaknesses and works on them, so they don’t make those same mistakes again in games.

“So far, this season has gone great,” freshman forward Cambry Patrick said. “We have put in the hard work, and we are getting positive results. At practice, we are focused and determined to get better. We work on a lot of technical skills that improve our competitiveness. From week to week, you can see how much we have grown mentally, physically, and as a team.”

The team has faced adversity this season, with their head coach, Ian Keeble, being out with an illness for part of the season.

“He [Coach Keeble] comes to practice just as excited as us and ready to help us improve.” Patrick said. “ He is not only our coach, but he is also a great role model. He always has a positive attitude and growth mindset that helps us prepare. At the end of each pre game speech, Coach Keeble says, ‘and make sure to have fun.’ We always make sure to do just that.”
