Registration is now open for the district’s annual Summer Musical Theatre Camps taking place July 8-19.
The camp is directed by Jessica Brewster, high school theatre head director, and Anne Tracy, Puster Elementary music specialist.
“I hope the campers learn how important it is to work as a team and other skills–stage etiquette and vocal and acting techniques,” Tracy said.
Incoming fourth through seventh graders have the option to sign up for either the Musical Theatre or Technical Theatre Camp. The Musical Theatre Camp will focus on acting, singing, and choreography skills while the Technical Theatre Camp will teach students about lighting, costuming, set building, and painting.
“The Musical Theatre camp is currently full, and we have a waiting list,” Tracy said. “There are still spots available in the Technical Theatre camp.”
Incoming eighth and ninth graders can apply to be a Musical Theatre Intern, a new position to this year’s camp. The intern camp takes place July 9-20 and is open to students who have previously attended the Summer Musical Theatre Camps.
According to the Musical Theatre Intern Camp flyer, “students who attend will develop confidence, help younger students develop their musical and theatrical skills, and create wonderful memories along the way.”
This year’s campers will produce “Seussical KIDS.”
“We selected ‘Seussical’ for a number of reasons,” Tracy said. “It has a wide variety of characters and many opportunities for actors to shine, the set and costumes are bright and fun, and everyone loves Dr. Seuss.”
The camp will also be run by multiple high school volunteers.
“I decided to help volunteer because when I was in seventh grade I attended the camp myself, and I had a blast,” senior Riley Bergwall said.
Bergwall hopes students will be able to take away many skills from the camp.
“I hope that kids will learn to get out of their shell a little bit and just remember to always have fun,” Bergwall said.
