The cross country boys team is headed to the state meet once again, looking to win its third consecutive state title after winning the regional 2-5A meet.
The boys team recorded 37 total points in the regional meet, which was far ahead of second place Frisco Wakeland at 109 points.
The girls team did not qualify for the state meet, however senior Carson Hockersmith and sophomore Amelia Carothers qualified individually, so they will be traveling with the boys to the state tournament next Saturday, Nov. 3. The state meet will be held in Round Rock at Old Settlers Park.
“Amelia is a great teammate,” Hockersmith said. “She pushes me during our workouts and during our races, and she has definitely helped me and our team improve and get us to where we are now.”
Hockersmith finished in 15th with a time of 19:08 and Carothers right behind her in 16th place with a time of 19:09
The boys competed at top performance once again, with four runners in the top 10 overall. Junior Will Muirhead led the way for the boys team, finishing second overall with a time of 15:14, only two seconds behind first. In third was junior Brady Laboret with a time of 15:27. In eighth place was senior Brett Pedersen with a time of 15:38.
“We ran well as a team, and to prepare for state, we are just going to continue what training we have been doing,” Muirhead said.
